Naloxone Training for First Responders
As part of our comprehensive strategy to reduce opioid-related fatalities, The Multicultural Development Institute, Ind. d/b/a El Doctor Mancini (www.eldoctormancini.com) has partnered with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities State Opioid Adapted Response (SOAR) to provide Free Naloxone Training for traditional and non-traditional First Responders and Free Naloxone kits.
This project will implement targeted naloxone training for first responders who are often the first to witness and respond to overdoses in many communities throughout Georgia. Grounded in SAMHSA’s required activities under the State Opioid Response (SOR) program, these trainings will equip emergency personnel, community-based responders, and peer support workers with the knowledge and tools to recognize signs of overdose, properly administer naloxone, and connect individuals to follow-up care.
Traditional First Responders include EMS, Police, Fire, Sheriff, and other law enforcement agencies.
Nontraditional First Responder groups that the Georgia DBHDD has identified as eligible for training through State Opioid Adapted Response (SOAR), include:
- School nurses
- After school program facilitators
- Bouncers/club security personnel
- Flight attendants
- Airport security
